How to use adult adhd symptoms to
Your advantage as Life Coach
Review of
“The CoachStart™ Manual
David Wood PCC This part is meant for adult with ADD and ADHD and want to become coach. (I use the term ADD for my convenience here, I m mean both types.). As you see I am a coach for ADD adults. I arrived in this profession because I am a ‘full swing’ ADHD-person myself. Diagnosed at the age of 38, eleven years from now. (Time flies!) I followed the regular treatment: medicine, psycho-therapy, coaching and (self-) education. In the process of therapy I discovered that my enthusiasm and persuasiveness do have a great positive impact on people around. I knew this already because I was in commercial business, insurance and mortgage. In the councelings proces I started to see that I can be of great value for adults who find a way to manage their ADD.
Win-Win-WinMy psychologist, who is coach also, stimulated me to start a coaching practice. And so I did and with success! He, my psychiatrist and others referred clients to me, a win-win-win situation. My psychologist who became also my coach worked with me on my mind-set and initiated me into the overall business matters. This was of great value for me. Nevertheless I missed a part. For example the specific coaching knowledge and skills: for this I started a professional education, by a Dutch institute. And still there was something missing: the hand and feet where and how to start.
The Coach Start Manual
As a real self-educator I dived into the Internet and found a resource of great value: The Coach Start Manual. It says that it is “A Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Your Professional Life or Business Coaching Practice”. I can tell that is really is! This was what I was looking for and it did help me very right. It is practical, starting at step one: why become a coach? What is coaching? What is not coaching? The coaching market, types of coaching, who are becoming coaches?
The manual contains 8 sections:
1. Industry background 2. Strategy 3. Getting Ready 4. Getting paying clients 5. How to get clients from Internet 6. How to get clients via alliances 7. How to get clients via public speaking 8. Further resources
Guide David Wood tells in plain English why he writes about these subjects and what’s in it for the reader. I can say that he gives more than full value for money. I used it literally as a guide and it gave me the boost and direction I needed. As I mentioned before, it is a few years ago I read and used it. For this review I do look in it and I can become enthusiastic again! His writing style and advises are catching. He guides the user in a-matter-of-fact way to the points he wants to be (or must be to become successful). I defined exactly what I wanted with my practice by this guide. The number of clients I wished in a specific time, defined the niche where I work in. My session-price, a marketing strategy (he has original ideas about this) and he gave me the extra confidence I needed.
Realistic View The decision to get certified (or not) can be made on base of a good fundament, he provides the bricks. The point where I am now is, that I travel in Europe with a gypsy-caravan and two horses, my wife and dog. I work hard on my website to keep travelling I paid three years ago $ 97,00 and this is still the price now. I say with the hand on my heart that the value is many times more. Even if you are not sure yet if you want to start as coach, you get a realistic view of what it takes to be one. As evaluator for this goal it is even worth the money! It did help me to dream what I wanted to be (for a great part I am there now!). It gave me a good view of what a coaching practice is in the matter of fact. His advice is still of great value now, and I will surely study on some parts again to refine my present business.
Conclusion The CoachStart Manual is one of the best resources I've found, and has everything you need to build a thriving life coaching practice. It really is an A-Z Manual.
