Alternative medicine for adhd: what about meditation and prayer?
Alternative medicine for adhd, Edward Hallow and John Ratey advise meditation and prayer in their book: “Delivered from Distraction, Getting Most out of Life with Attention Deficit Disorder” as one of the ways to cope with ADHD. It is a great work and I advice everyone with ADHD or in the surrounding to read it.In my life prayer and meditation did and do help a lot. As a very young child I prayed (I am raised in a devotional Roman-Catholic tradition) and started again later in my thirties. The presumption of meditation and prayer is the belief that we can influence ourselves and even direct trough a purposed direction. Our attention is focused in our Inner and maybe Higher from there. Prayer and meditation is as old as the human being, in some way it is also controversial. In these times the (brain- and body-) scientists agree that there is a positive change in the working of the brains and body when people pray or meditate. It is even said that people who do believe in something High are happier and more satisfied. However, you read this far so I assume that you are open to think about it.
Direction of attention.
When I go back from now to earlier, I can say that the discovery of a certain prayer is very helpful for me. I think that the content of such prayer is not essential, the length is. I’ll explain. In situations where it is difficult to exercise patience, I recite my prayer. It helps! My inner aim is not at the given practical situation, but at my Self, or the Highest, if you wish. I feel the relieve and I’m sure the people in my direct surrounding do feel that, too! Even it is not at a conscious level…. An additional aspect is that the content of my prayer or meditation does its work, too. Emile Coué, a French psychiatrist from the 19th century discovered that a very simple sentence helped his patients fantastic. He became very famous, also in the United States and there are still very much people who admire him and use his ‘mantra’. Here it is: “Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better." The result of his patients were that stunningly that a big movement appeared of people coming together in great numbers on regular base and recite this simple sentence.

Alternative medicine for ADHD: how?
Meditation and prayer can be found in every spiritual movement from the Ancient times until today. And I am convinced that it will be part of life as long as humanity exist. The art of life is to find the manner that fits with the individual. The palette of several and different spiritual movements is that huge, that it is not simple to choose.Bottom-line is for this way of alternative medicine for ADHD is, that the intention is directed to the Spirit, the Inner and that the object or content of the meditation is focused on one point.
